For Advantix to be completely effective it has to be absorbed into the skin. Any contact before this can remove the solution from your dog’s skin, which means he will not receive the full protection against fleas, ticks and mosquitoes.
How long after applying Advantix can I touch my dog? Ideally, you should refrain from contact with your dog for 48 hours after application. This gives plenty of time for the solution to be completely absorbed into the skin. Contact includes stroking, hugging and grooming your dog.

K9 Advantix is a topical treatment for the control of parasites including fleas, ticks and mosquitoes. The solution kills fleas and ticks at all life stages, whilst also repelling them and preventing further bites.
12 hours after application, K9 Advantix offers your dog up to 30 days of protection. Fleas already on your dog and any new fleas after the solution is added will die within 2 hours.
For Advantix to be effective, you should also regularly wash your dog’s bedding on a hot wash to prevent flea eggs from being laid there and transferring to your dog via contact.
Where to apply Advantix on dogs
When applying Advantix to your dog, make sure you start at the base of his neck and work down from the shoulder to the base of the tail. It is important that Advantix be applied directly on the skin for maximum effectiveness so use your fingers or a comb to part their fur until you can see it.
How to apply Advantix for dogs
Applying Advantix is easy and can be done in less than 2 minutes by following these simple steps.
- Ensure your dog has been bathed as you cannot do so within 2 days of application.
- Have your dog sit and part the hair in the locations advised on the packaging.
- Gently squeeze the applicator, keeping the tip in contact with the skin to avoid spillage.
- Give the solution at least one hour to dry.
- Cats cannot metabolize the main ingredients in Advantix so keep them separate from your dog for at least 24 hours to prevent them from licking your dog’s hair.
That’s it! Anyone can apply Advantix to their dog. If this is the first time your dog has used Advantix, keep an eye on him in case he develops a reaction to the solution. Symptoms to watch for include:
- Lack of appetite
- Itching or skin irritation at the application site
