What does Yunnan Baiyao do for dogs?

Yunnan Baiyao is mostly common used to treat canine cancers and tumors, but can also be used to promote faster healing, reduce blood loss from open wounds, as well as many other health benefits.

The ingredients in Yunnan Baiyao have always been kept secret, but it is believed that the main ingredients are galanga, Notoginseng and Chinese yam.

How often should I give my dog Yunnan Baiyao?

As with most medications, the dosage of Yunnan Baiyao is calculated based on the weight of the dog. Dogs under 35lbs would be recommended 1 capsule daily and ideally with or shortly after food.

For dogs between 35lbs and 65lbs, the recommended dose is 2 capsules per day, although some vets may suggest 2 capsules twice daily.

The dosage for dogs heavier than 65lbs is typically 1 capsule given 3 per day, however, some vets may recommend 2 capsules given 3 times per day.

Since Yunnan Baiyao is a herbal medicine, the risks of overdosing are low, as are the chances that a dog may experience side effects. The main concern is an upset stomach and diarrhea if too much is given in short intervals or too many capsules are given at one time.

If you are using Yunnan Baiyao to treat open wounds, simply open the capsule and shake the powder over the infected area.

What are the side effects of Yunnan Baiyao in dogs?

The main symptoms are vomiting and diarrhea, although there are other symptoms to watch for.

It is advised not to give Yunnan Baiyao every day for more than a few days, as it can cause liver problems. The best schedule is every other day, as this gives the dog’s digestive system time to remove any excess ingredients that the body cannot use.

There has not been much study on the effect of Yunnan Baiyao on pregnant dogs, unborn puppies, or newborn puppies, so it is not advisable to give Yunnan Baiyao to pregnant or nursing dogs.

How long does it take for Yunnan Baiyao to work in dogs?

The timeframe for seeing results depends entirely on the dog, how they react to the medication and how quickly it is metabolized in their system.

Most dogs will show clear improvements within 7 days, but smaller changes may be noticeable after 2 or 3 days.

The ingredients will also have an effect on how long it takes for Yunnan Baiyao to work. There are hundreds of Yunnan Baiyao products available to purchase online and they do not all have the same ingredients.

Look for supplements containing Tienchi ginseng root (also known as Notoginseng), Chinese yam, nipponica Makino root and inula cappa plant extract.
