- Step 1 — Stop feeding Freshpet and secure the packaging. - Step 4 — Call Freshpet Consumer Care at 1-866-789-3737. Mon–Fri 9am–9pm EDT, Sat–Sun 9am–1pm EDT. Report the illness formally, request a full refund, and ask that they document your case. Freshpet’s stated policy is to investigate all concerns including consulting their independent veterinarian team. Save all communication records.
- Step 5 — If switching brands: choose one with equivalent vet credentials and transition properly. The Farmer’s Dog, JustFoodForDogs, Nom Nom, and Ollie are the most vet-credentialed alternatives in the fresh food category. Any brand switch — including back to kibble — should use the 7–10 day gradual transition protocol to avoid compounding the digestive upset your dog is already experiencing.
